And if the quest was to kill someone or a bunch of mutants, you may have used ammo and medical supplies, that can be expensive. For example, going to another location costs 5000, getting back costs 5000, you just spent 10 000 rubles and the quest you completed has a reward of 7000, congrats, you are 3000 rubles behind. Most quest rewards are around 5000-7500 rubles, rarely more than 10 000 or an artefact or a cool expensive item, a guide charges you about 5000-8000 rubles, but I think sometimes more, depending on the distance to the location you want to travel to, the further away, the higher the price. I also want to talk about guides, I think they are completely useless, because the locations they can bring you to are very limited and the prices they charge you to get you there are very high. Maybe I could self-impose a rule, where I have to have found the Compass artefact and have it on my belt in order to teleport, but I don't know if Compass spawns at all, if story mode is disabled. I've tried to self-impose a rule, where I can only fast travel to places that I have walked to, but after a while I just say "f*ck it" and start teleporting everywhere. I just start teleporting myself left, right and center. Even for short distances, like, the quest is in the same area or in the neighbouring area. And my problem with fast travel is, that once I start using it, I can't stop. However, as others pointed out, walking gets boring rather quickly, because nothing interesting happens, especially in the early areas. By randomness, I mean the things and people you stumble upon when walking from one place to another. I try not to use it, because it takes the randomness out of the experience.

But I am clueless as to how to implement any of that.

I am considering making a mod that either adds more guide characters to settlements (especially for factions that lack them), gives the existing guides more locations, or makes the PDA fast travel system cost rubles based on distance traveled. I like to use the room underneath the flea market in Garbage as my crib. This essentially makes that one stash my hideout.

Paying guides to bring you to hubs feels a lot better than just fast traveling for free to any visited location, but the actual network of locations those guides can bring you to is somewhat lacking and highly dependent on your faction.Ī good middle ground I've found is to impose the rule on myself that I can only PDA fast travel to stashes, and I can only have one stash. The long, hard journey back to the Bar from the Outskirts on ironman mode can sometimes be the best experience you can have in STALKER, but after doing trips like that over and over just to get 7000 RU or something, it's very hard not to just turn PDA fast travel on. How does anyone else feel about fast travel in stalker and how it compares better to other open world games ?įast travel in Anomaly really is necessary if you don't want to spend an hour sprinting from Jupiter to Cordon just to deliver a package or an artifact.

It can also feel extremy cheap as you tap to your destination, instally do whatever you needed from your quest, install to back and ez money. This can be said for other open world titles like Fallout 4 or Skyrim. Or just the thought of going to pripyat then the cnpp and treading the dreaded path to pripyat.Fast travel takes all that away at the click of a button. It also takes the scare out of the game, having to go through those dangerous routes leaving you tense as you try to hopefully not run into anything that will kill you. You travel to point b immediately, then back to point a and there is no in between. Fast travel completely removed that feeling.

So fast travel mods have been around since CoC but Anomaly being a hardcore survival experience and not in anyway like an RPG has the feature as an option, and it does not fit in with stalkers gameplay at all! Those little experiences going point a to point b are some of the only times you get those really cool experiences like finding the aftermath of a shootout or accidentally one tapping a passing ecologists who's found 3 artifacts.
